1. Useful Firefox addons
- AdGuard AdBlocker
- has a lot of filters already in, just tick them all on
- Containerise
- great addon to filter websites into containers
- Temporary Containers
- great way to isolate webpages. Turn "Automatic Mode" on and select "Different from Tab Domain" for all mouse clicks to always open isolated tabs
- HTTPS Everywhere
- almost always forces HTTPS connection
- KeePass Helper
- puts URL in window title for KeePass Auto-Type feature. I'd rather turn it on for private windows
- User-Agent Switcher
- can change user-agent every given time. It's rather good idea to remove old IE from the list
- I don't care about cookies
- closes cookies alerts on majority of websites (damn you, Youtube!)
- Decentraleyes
- provides local files instead of getting them from centralised servers
- Privacy Redirect
- redirects Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and more to privacy friendly alternatives
- Privacy Badger
- helps AdGuard with blocking trackers on websites
- NoScript
- great, great addon for blocking scripts and other unwanted stuff on websites.
I myself make everything untrusted as default settings
2. Configuration tips
Apart from that, I think it's good idea to select "Always" under "Do Not Track" and "Delete cookies and site data when
Firefox is closed" in "Privacy & Security" options. Also "HTTPS-Only Mode in all windows" option seems great.
I also like to set up DNS over HTTPS in general settings. PrivacyTools.io
has nice list with some providers (I'm using blahDNS at the moment).
And don't forget about their great tutorial for about:config.
